Maaike Leyn
BIOGRAFIE
Maaike Leyn maakt houtskooltekeningen op ruw linnen doek, meestal zwart-wit en worden niet opgespannen of in een kader gewrongen. Het gebruik van de klassieke techniek mag dan wel tijdloos zijn, toch hanteert ze dit materiaal op een eerder onconventionele manier. Met droog pigment wrijft en duwt ze het zwarte en witte pigment in het weefsel waardoor een spel ontstaat van zachte en harde strepen en vlekken. Het is een subtiele spanning tussen ingehouden en losgelaten energie, intuïtie en spel. Het zijn geen doeken om vrolijk van te worden, maar ze zijn indringend mooi en gaan op zoek naar essenties.
