BIOGRAFIE

Daphne van de Velde (1973 ) verbeeldt in haar kunst het vrouw-zijn in een door mannen gedomineerde samenleving. Het werk is een bevraging van het fotografische medium, een innovatieve verkenning van de mogelijkheden ervan. Het werk tast de grens af tussen fotografie, performance en sculptuur.
Het werk is autobiografisch. Door de gecompliceerde relatie met haar vader van wie ze al op jonge leeftijd vervreemd raakte, zijn verlangen en bedreiging een steeds terugkerend motief in haar kunstenaarschap. Met een achtergrond in de moderne dans gebruikt ze haar eigen lichaam om te onderzoeken hoe je omgaat met angst voor het eigen verlangen en afwijzing, wat liefde is en waarom je dat mag wantrouwen, maar niet altijd. Op deze manier heeft ze haar verlegenheid kunnen overwinnen.
